The story of Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) in Data is free and accessible for everyone. Help us to complete our work by making a generous contribution.
BCCI Insights website is the initiative of the BCCI Campaign Committee Trust, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee (Company Number 13561895) registered in England & Wales, United Kingdom on 12 August 2021.
On 5 July 1991 some western central banks called for the abrupt shut down of BCCI worldwide, amid many controversial allegations and at a time when the bank was technically not bankrupt. In some countries BCCI local operations were not shut down.
A 1992 United Nations Study not made public criticised the way BCCI was shut down by western central banks causing economic damage on countries where BCCI was an important institution.
We are working to record the history of BCCI on this website with information, internal documents, policy manuals. reports, inhouse magazines, personal recollections, photographs, memorabilia and so on that have not previously been available or known to the public.

The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), founded in 1972, grew faster than almost any other international bank, with a presence in 73 countries it was the source of gossip and idle speculation in the minds of the West to perpetuate their colonial mindset. The controversial action was taken by the regulators in the West in shutting down the bank in 1991 when BCCI was honouring all financial obligations and was restructuring its operations must not be allowed to be forgotten.
The work on collecting data and building the content of the website is urgent before records and recollections of former employees and clients of BCCI are lost.
We have been able to add some content, a lot remains to be done. We are sure that there are still hundreds of documents on BCCI that are collecting dust somewhere and are yet to be preserved.

We humbly urge you to contribute generously to make sure that future generations are not blind to the significant contributions that BCCI and the founder have made in banking and to the Third World, before the banking group was controversially shut-down worldwide in 1991.
We request you to give a minimum £15.00, or US$20.00 from time to time, until 2030.
You can also give generously a larger amount.

Feedback on BCCI website
The BCCI website from the content posted so far is informative and rather inspirational. It gives a glimpse of what it might have been like for you and others working with the visionary founder and also inspirational to our generation as an example of decentralised management putting people first with humility. Some of the initiatives were truly ahead of its time and relevant to decentralisation nowadays looking to interfuse similar ethos. Hope its purpose can carry on as an inspirational model to our generation.
