March 1986, Luxembourg

Luxembourg city, Luxembourg

The city of Luxembourg in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was the setting for the 1986 Annual Management Conference of the BCC Group. It was like homecoming for BCCI to its origin.

Throughout history, Luxembourg city was an important strategic location, and by the 16th century had become one of the strongest in Europe. Today Luxembourg, alongside Strasbourg and Brussels, is one of the three headquarters of the European Union. Among the (European Institutions established in Luxembourg are: The European Court of Justice, The European Investment Bank, The European Court of Auditors, The Secretariat of the European Parliament. It has been said of Luxembourg that, "the small city has become a crossroads of Europe".

Luxembourg evolved as a financial centre from the end of the 1960s that gained further prominence with the international character of the city. In 1960 the number of banking establishments was 17. That number grew considerably and included BCCI which was established in Luxembourg in 1972.
