Completing the BCCI Insights website is the first step towards preserving BCCI’s history in book form. The documents, accounts and research brought together here will provide the principal foundation for the planned publications.
The Bank That Was Buried focuses on BCCI’s final years: the problems identified, the Abu Dhabi-backed restructuring programme and the abrupt closure in July 1991. It examines why restructuring was abandoned and why the Bank of England acted on a draft Section 41 report without verifying any new allegations and giving the Abu Dhabi majority shareholders an opportunity to respond.
The book will examine the wrongdoing alongside the alternatives to closure and its consequences for customers and employees.
Publication will carry this work beyond the website, creating a lasting reference for future readers and researchers.
