
AROUND THE BCC WORLD
Here is a first glimpse of some images from the world of BCC from photographs of employees (members of the BCC family), people, events, and memorable moments in BCC's history published in the bank's in-house magazine, BCC International. The selection includes photographs contributed by BCC employees and their families and those obtained from other sources. Some are duplicated in other section pages where photographs are immediately associated with specific subject matters.
South Korea

South Korea: The staff of the BCCI Seoul celebrating the branch’s second anniversary. The branch opened in 1979.
Yemen Arab Republic

Yemen Arab Republic: (North Yemen): Mr Mohammad Yousuf (centre), Manager BCCI Sanaa branch at a reception in conversation with some guests including a minister of the Yemen Arab Republic and the deputy foreign minister of Finland.
Seychelles

Seychelles: known as Paradise Island: BCCI branch had an outstandingly successful operation.

France: Avenue George V, Paris where BCCI established a branch on 1 January 1977.

Sudan: A busy counter at BCCI branch in Khartoum.

Germany (West): A bustling street scene in Hamburg where BCCI had a branch.

United Kingdom: Staff of BCCI Liverpool branch in 1980 on the centenary of the City of Liverpool which has been an important town and sea-port of England since the thirteenth century. United Kingdom: Messengers at BCCI at 100 Leadenhall Street in the City of London. Bank messengers played an important role in handling post and internal communications.

UAE: A Fast Courier Service now links BCC’s 28 branches in the UAE.

Hong Kong: Mr Aslam Siddiqui, managing director BCCI Finance Hong Kong which started operations in 1974 with investment and loan syndication activities. Due to Hong Kong banking regulations, the Finance company could not operate in the full sense as a bank. Later BCCI purchased a local bank, Hong Metropolitan Bank, which became BCC Hong Kong.

United Kingdom: Seated in front, left to right: Mr Frederick Wilmot, one of the first people to be employed at BCCI. He joined in London in November 1972; Ms Jenny Gunning joined BCCI in December 1972, as receptionist, cashier. telex operator and tea-girl and went on to become a foreign exchange dealer.
Standing behind, left to right: Ms Helen Cole who was 17 when she came to work for BCCI London in 1974. She was initially employed as assistant to Mr Sheila Naylor and went to be secretary to Mr Dildar Rizvi, senior executive at BCC central office London until he was transferred to the USA and was later General Manager of BCCI Far East Region and she later worked for Mr Wajih Sirri Al-Kaylani, the executive in charge of the International Business Division at central office London; Sheila Naylor joined BCCI in London in 1973 and became full time secretary to the BCC President, Mr Agha Hasan Abedi.

United Arab Emirates: BCCI’s impressive Middle East regional office building in Dubai.

Ms Gloria Lopez at the reception at BCCI representative office at 375 Park Avenue, in one of the most prestigious and sought-after buildings in New York City. The interior followed the traditional BCCI style of high quality.

United Kingdom: The Banker, the influential magazine in the banking profession, published the list of the top 500 world banks in 1980.



United Kingdom: Dr Felipe Herrera, the internationally-known Chilean economist and a consultant for public and private institutions all over the world, became an adviser to BCC Group. He was also appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Third World Foundation which was funded by BCCI. He held a number of important positions with the Chilean government and was chairman of the administrative council of the International Fund for Promotion of Culture (a UNESCO body), chairman of the board of trustees of UNITAR, president of the Institute of Intercontinental Cooperation, president of the World Society of Ekistics - a multi-disciplinary organisation concerned with problems of habitat - and was a member of the Club of Rome. Dr Herrera received merit awards from 20 universities throughout the world.

Luxembourg: Mr Shahid Jamil, branch manager BCCI Luxembourg.


United Kingdom: The Banker magazine in London, one of the most widely read and influential publications in the banking profession, published its rankings of the Arab Banks in 1980. In the Top ten ranked by total deposits BCC was ranked THE 5TH LARGEST ARAB BANK. A remarkable achievement considering that BCCI only began operations in 1972.

Pakistan: Mr Muzaffar Uppal and his wife, Romana ,whose marriage took place in Karachi in January 1980. Muzaffar was then with BCCI UK Regional office London for four and half years working s in the advertisement department.

South Korea: At the Chang - chung courts in Seoul BCC won the final of the Foreign Banks Tournament organised by BCCI Seoul branch. Front right Mr S W Hahn, back right Mr R N Pawar, shaking hands with their Citibank opponents, front left Mr Kim, back left Mr Tom Petersmyer. The tournament was initiated by BCCI to encourage sporting events and promote friendship among people working for the foreign banks in Seoul. The event drew 52 players from 11 foreign banks.
