
AROUND THE BCC WORLD
Here is a first glimpse of some images from the world of BCC from photographs of employees (members of the BCC family), people, events, and memorable moments in BCC's history published in the bank's in-house magazine, BCC International. The selection includes photographs contributed by BCC employees and their families and those obtained from other sources. Some are duplicated in other section pages where photographs are immediately associated with specific subject matters.

Gabon: Staff members of BCCI Gabon branch who took part in the first national car race in the country. From left to right: Mr Tash, M Agne, Mr and Mrs Babacar Ndaw and Mr K J Faustin Mitamona. Gabon is a French speaking country on the west coast of Central Africa.

India: Mr Ali Abbas, an officer from the BCCI Bahrain branch, and his wife being introduced to the Indian Prime Minister Mrs Gandhi, at her residence in Delhi.

United Kingdom: The TV series "Bird of Prey" shown on BBC in April 1982 was partly filmed in BCCI Birmingham branch. The production manager of the series visited the bank and was impressed by the high standard of interior design. Mr Shaukat Ali, manager of the Colmore Row branch, had obtained permission for BBC to film on Saturdays, when all banks in the UK were required to close during the week-end.

United Arab Emirates: Mr Agha Hasan Abedi, President BCC, with His Excellency Dr Mahmoud Hamra Krouha, director general of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (a major client of BCCI Abu Dhabi main branch), during a visit to Abu Dhabi, to keep him informed of BCC's progress and to thank him for his continued support for BCCI.




United Kingdom: BCCI London chess club celebrated the end of its first season in the London Banks Chess League by beating National Westminster Bank 6--0. This was the largest winning margin of the 1982 season. The team of six players was drawn from a pool of 17 who represented BCCI during the season. France: Participants at BCCI Paris region first training seminar. The seminar held in Nice, on the south coast of France, brought together the region's senior officers and some new BCC members working in the area. The chairman of the seminar was a former senior manager of the Banque de France (Central Bank of France). The programme covered the French economic system, banking in France and export credit techniques. The seminar was the first of a series which was intended to speed BCCI's integration into the Francophone zone.

United Kingdom: Mr lmran Khan, captain of the Pakistan cricket team, visit to BCCI 100 Leadenhall Street where he was a guest at lunch. The test match series was played in the summer of 1981 between Pakistan and England.

Pakistan: Mr Syed Nasir Hameed from BCCI Karachi, a keen car-racing fan, was on holiday in Europe, when he met world-famous racing star Niky Lauda.



United Kingdom: Stationers to the BCC World. In front Mr M Faizan with members of his department in London who was supplied BCC with all the printed material used by the bank world-wide. The advertising brochures, gifts, memorabilia, diaries and showcards were also produced by this department.


Colombia: Bogota, capital of Colombia. BCC's office there was part of BCCI’s growing network in the Caribbean and South America. Colombia is a Spanish speaking country in South America.

United Kingdom: A group of BCC family members from the UK region learning to parachute. Most of the time was spent getting to know the complex equipment and practising landing until leaving them all bruised and weary and feeling decidedly nervous. A plane then took them up to 2500 feet, the instructor opened the door and the first in line was told to jump out! A feeling of sheer terror was quickly followed by a rush of wind, a tug at the shoulders as the 'chute opened and then a few ecstatic moments as the ground slowly rose to meet the jumper falling towards the ground.

United Kingdom: History in the making - Mr Agha Hasan Abedi, BCC President purchasing the first BCC travellers cheque in London.

Switzerland: BCC Group Annual Management Conference, 20-21 February 1982, Geneva.

United Kingdom: BCC world ranking - Two highly respected journals, The Banker and Euromoney, both published from London, surveyed the performances of the world’s largest commercial banks in 1982.
