Here is a first glimpse of some images from the world of BCC from photographs of employees (members of the BCC family), people, events, and memorable moments in BCC's history published in the bank's in-house magazine, BCC International. The selection includes photographs contributed by BCC employees and their families and those obtained from other sources. Some are duplicated in other section pages where photographs are immediately associated with specific subject matters.

United Kingdom: Giving in Ethiopia. Princess Anne, President of Save the Children Fund, met principal donors to the fund's recent appeal to help children in Ethiopia. Princess Anne expressed her gratitude to Mr Pesi Sorab, representing BCC, for the bank's important contribution in this hour of need. The tragedy of the famine in Ethiopia touched the hearts of many people around the world. The response from people of all nationalities was one of the most inspiring events in recent years. The large food and clothing supplies that had been shipped and airlifted to Ethiopia were left in the docks and airports due to a serious shortage of large delivery vehicles. To meet this need, BCC provided three giant lorries to assist in the nationwide distribution of foods, grains and other items.

Niger: Niger's Minister of Finance, Mr Boukary Adji, formally opened BCC branch in the capital, Niamey. Mr Adji in the centre of the picture is cutting the ribbon, with Mr Hameed Akhtar, country manager, on the right and Mr Iqbal Rizvi, general manager BCC Francophone region, on the left. Niger, officially the Republic of the Niger, is a French-speaking country in West Africa named after the Niger River. One of the largest inland countries in West Africa, Niger is historically a gateway between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

China: BCC young officers who were undertaking an intensive Chinese language and orientation course at Beijing's Language Institute. Seen here standing in front of the Institute, with their teachers. Read more in BCCI the bank - Global Presence - Far East Region - China.

Turkey: The delegates trade mission from United Arab Emirates to Turkey attending a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Istanbul. Mr Javed Ali Khan, BCC officer, was an official member of the mission and is seated on the far left.

**Zimbabwe:** Mr B. C. Barkataki of BCCI Zimbabwe who was elected unanimously to the post of vice chairman of the Council of the Institute of Bankers in Zimbabwe. This was a prelude to his election as chairman of the council in 1986.

United Kingdom: Members of the BCCI London cricket team. The cricket season started well with an excellent match between BCC London and BCC Luxembourg and a victory by the BCCI London team over Pakistan International Airlines team.

United Kingdom: The BCC London netball team who raised the money by securing sponsors for their matches. They donated the amount from BCC to Queen Mary's Hospital, near London, for a new coloscopy laser for the detection of cervical cancer. The picture shows the money being handed over to a representative of the hospital.

United Arab Emirates: His Excellency Sheikh Saeed Bin Tahnoon Al Nahayan, a member of the Abu Dhabi Royal family, signing the visitors' book at the new BCC Emirates branch in Al Ain which opened on 26 June 1985. Mr Mohsin Khurshid, manager of Al Ain branch, and Mr Zafar Iqbal, managing director of BCC Emirates are present.

**Isle of Man:** Mr Stephen Porter, BCC family member, who achieved a notable success in the first ever Island Games in the Isle of Man. Stephen Porter is a cyclist of international stature and he won no less than three gold medals. The games were open to athletes from many European islands and BCC sponsored a reception in honour of the new games which led to further social, cultural and educational links between the islands.

United Kingdom: The BCC London cricket team that defeated the Bank of England XI in their match of 6 July 1985. The Bank of England made 118 all out while BCC were 124 for 2 and won by 8 wickets.

**Germany (West):** Mr Faisal Basheer, manager of the BCCI Frankfurt branch in West Germany, was awarded the licence Geschaftsleiter by the country's bank supervisory authorities. The licence allowed the conduct of banking activities. Mr Faisal Basheer was the youngest official ever to receive the licence - an achievement which was seen as a reflection of the esteem in which BCC was held by the West German authorities.

**United Kingdom:** BCC Group Marketing Brochure produced by BCC central office in London for use throughout the BCC Group. The brochure contained a full description of the services offered by BCC and was an invaluable aid to BCC’s worldwide marketing efforts.

Canada: Promoting BCC Travellers Cheques. In the picture from left: Mr A. D. Raj, general manager, and Mr Anis K. Zuberi, manager, BCC Canada and Mr Montiel Kwinter, Ontario's Minister for Consumer and Commercial Relations. BCC's had a presence at the Ontario Conference, Trade Show and Travel Fair to promote BCC travellers cheques to more than 20,000 professionals in the travel industry.

United Kingdom: A graduate officer group with BCC Regional Training and Development centre in Hong Kong on a recent visit to Leeds Castle. United Kingdom: BCC's London cricket team who played at the Oval, London's famous cricket ground, in a six-a-side tournament. Competing teams were from the Bank of Scotland, Shell Oil, Rank Xerox and the Corporation of Lloyd's.

United Kingdom: Members of the BCC Hockey Club formed in London. The team captained by Mr Ohsin Noon, gained a reputation in club hockey, travelled to Holland for an international competition sponsored by Philips International and played in hockey tournaments all over Europe.

United Kingdom: A number of BCCI officers based in London came together to form the Ginger Group. The group met regularly to discuss the applications of Real Management within BCC.

United Kingdom: On 15 January 1985 Mr Agha Hasan Abedi, President, wrote again to all members of the BCC family from central office in London to convey the intensity of his feelings on Giving and to express his sincere hopes for the future evolution of BCC. He requested each one to Give as much of all this as they could and to Give every moment as “you breathe and as you exist”. The exercise of 'GIVING' was introduced in BCC during 1982 and employees were given three percent of their annual salary by BCC to GIVE according to each person's own sentiments, his own urges and his own light.

Austria: BCC Group annual management conference 2-3 March 1985, Vienna, for the second time.

United Kingdom: Mr Pesi Sorab, executive in charge, Management Services Division at BCC central office in London, with representatives of one of the schools involved in a BCC project for starting a computer literacy programme for schools. This was part of BCCI’s project on educating today's children in the technology of tomorrow.

India: Members of the BCCI Merchant Banking Group in Bombay (now Mumbai).

United Kingdom: New premises of BCCI Cannon Street branch in London with the design and furnishings of the highest standards.

Pakistan: BCC House in Karachi, a six-storey building, that housed the BCCI Karachi main branch and other departments as well as the BCC's South Asia Region office and BCC South Asia Training and Development Centre (also known as BCCI Karachi Academy). The architecture and overall feel of the building are exceptional. The all-glass frontage at the time was unique in Karachi and the modem, elegant style gave the whole building a feeling of spaciousness. The fifth floor was reserved for staff welfare, with a cafeteria and prayer room.

**United Kingdom:** Cover of a monthly magazine for the Third World published by the Third World Foundation in London with charitable status. The foundation was funded by BCCI and Mr Agha Hasan Abedi, BCC President was the chairman of the Board of trustees. The magazine highlighted development issues and North-South dynamics in international relations and politics in the 1980s.

United Kingdom: BCCI Hockey Club in London, formed in 1985. The team gained a reputation in club hockey and travelled to Holland for an international competition sponsored by Philips International. As a result of its good showing, the club, captained by Mr Ohsin Noon, was invited to play in hockey tournaments all over Europe.

**Austria:** At the 1985 BCC Annual Management Conference in Vienna, Mr Alaudin Shaik, head of BCC Central Marketing and Ms Tahera Masud of BCC Central Support Organisation (CSO) London, with Mr Bashir Tahir, General Manager BCC (Emirates) Abu Dhabi, UAE on left and Mr Arif Kemal, Head of China Division, BCC Far East Regional Office, Hong Kong.
