Introduction to Library

The Library at BCCI Insights is envisioned to become a comprehensive resource centre dedicated to preserving and sharing a wide array of historical materials, including papers, letters, in-house magazines, operations manuals and other key documents. These materials would provide invaluable insights into the remarkable history and extraordinary growth of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), an institution founded in 1972 that experienced a meteoric rise before its abrupt closure and forced liquidation.

The resources collected and housed within this library hold lasting significance, not only for researchers and scholars but also for the general public, as they illuminate a critical period in the history of global banking and Third World relations. These documents aim to provide a transparent and factual understanding of the events that defined BCCI’s journey - from its foundation and expansion to its pioneering initiatives in banking. BCCI played a pivotal role in the training and development of Third World bankers who were serving in banks of their former colonial masters. Through these resources, the library seeks to preserve and highlight the profound impact BCCI had on reshaping banking dynamics and empowering developing nations.

There was significant negative publicity in the West aimed at justifying BCCI's closure - much of it unfounded, unwarranted, and misleading. Unfortunately, BCCI was unable to defend itself against these allegations. By making these historical materials widely accessible, the library seeks to empower researchers, scholars, and professionals to form their own independent judgments while gaining a nuanced understanding of the financial, political, and diplomatic dynamics that shaped BCCI's growth and eventual closure.

The library further aspires to encourage deeper discussions on the global implications of BCCI's closure, delving into the conduct and likely bias of the banking regulators and governments in the west. Through this initiative, the library aims to provide a platform for uncovering the multifaceted truths behind BCCI’s history, enabling a balanced and informed discourse about its legacy.
